How to use it
- Paste your CSV into the input box, upload a .csv file, or drop a file onto the box.
- The XML appears as you type. Change the indentation if you need to.
- Copy the result or download it as a .xml file.
Good to know
- The first row is used as the header. Numbers and true/false become real numbers and booleans. Dotted headers such as supplier.city are rebuilt into nested objects, so converting back gives you the original shape.
- A list is written as <item> elements inside a <root> element. Characters that are not allowed in XML tag names are replaced with underscores.
About the formats
CSV
CSV (comma-separated values) stores a table as plain text: one row per line, with columns split by commas. Excel, Google Sheets and almost every database can import and export it.
XML
XML wraps data in named tags, with optional attributes. It is still common in SOAP web services, RSS feeds, Office files and enterprise systems.
Questions
- Is my data uploaded anywhere?
- No. The conversion runs in your browser with JavaScript. Your data never leaves your device, and the tool keeps working if you lose your connection after the page has loaded.
- How big a file can I convert?
- Up to 25 MB per file. Very large files depend on your device’s memory, so if the page slows down, split the file into parts.
- Can I convert XML back to CSV?
- Yes. Use the XML to CSV converter, or press the swap button above the editor.
