How to use it
- Paste or type your text in the input box, or upload a file.
- The result appears as you type. Change the options above it if you need to.
- Copy the result or download it as a file.
Good to know
- Older 160-bit hash. Still used by Git and some legacy systems, but no longer safe against deliberate collisions.
- The hash is calculated from the UTF-8 bytes of your text. A single extra space or line break gives a completely different hash.
Questions
- Is my data uploaded anywhere?
- No. Everything runs in your browser with JavaScript. What you type or paste never leaves your device.
- Can a hash be reversed?
- No. SHA-1 is one-way: you cannot get the original text back from the hash. That is why it is used for checksums and signatures.
